The Korean Skincare Routine

Korean skincare is famous for the layered approach that delivers the 'glass skin' look — luminous, hydrated, and even. The full routine can run 7–10 steps, but the philosophy is simple: build hydration, treat gently, and protect daily.

1. Oil cleanser (PM)

Start the evening with a balm or oil cleanser to dissolve SPF, sebum, and makeup. Look for Banila Co Clean It Zero, Heimish All Clean Balm, or Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm.

2. Water-based cleanser

Follow with a low-pH gel or foam — COSRX Low-pH Good Morning Cleanser, Round Lab Dokdo Cleanser, or Anua Heartleaf Quercetinol Cleanser — to clear residue without stripping the barrier.

3. Toner / first treatment essence

Hydrating toners (Round Lab 1025 Dokdo, Klairs Supple Preparation) prep skin. The 7-skin method involves layering toner 3–7 times for plumpness.

4. Essence

The signature K-beauty step. SK-II Facial Treatment Essence (pitera), COSRX Snail Mucin 96, or Missha Time Revolution The First Treatment Essence push hydration deeper.

5. Serum / ampoule

Target one concern at a time — niacinamide for brightening, centella for redness, vitamin C for tone, retinal for aging. Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule and Beauty of Joseon Glow Serum are crowd favorites.

6. Sheet mask (2–3× per week)

Mediheal N.M.F. Aquaring or Abib Heartleaf masks deliver concentrated essence in 15 minutes.

7. Eye cream

A small dab around the orbital bone. Mizon Snail Repair Eye Cream is a budget hero.

8. Moisturizer

Lock everything in. Laneige Water Bank, Belif Aqua Bomb, or Torriden DIVE-IN cream.

9. Sleeping mask (PM, 2–3× per week)

Laneige Water Sleeping Mask is the icon.

10. Sunscreen (AM)

Non-negotiable. Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun, Round Lab Birch Juice Sunscreen, or Skin1004 Air-Fit suncream — all elegant, no white cast.

Frequently asked

Do I really need 10 steps?

No. The full 10-step routine is for those who enjoy it. A workable K-beauty routine is cleanse → toner → essence/serum → moisturizer → SPF.

What is glass skin?

A poreless, luminous finish achieved through deep hydration, gentle exfoliation, and consistent SPF — not a single product.
